Tuesdays

I'm not really sure if I like Tuesdays much. Everyone complains about Mondays, but I think that's unfair, especially since so many of the 'extras' in your life work weekends and may love Mondays as their day off. Like the girl at the newsstand, or the guy who makes your coffee. Sure, his nametag says 'Bill', and you may exchange a few words and a smile, but then you go on with your life and Bill the extra goes on with his.
Ever thought about the impact your Saturday morning coffee and newspaper ritual has on Bill? He won't be going to his sister's birthday party because society demands coffee on a Saturday. Or how about Hayley the shopgirl, who works a Sunday so you can browse her shoes but not buy anything? Poor Hayley lost touch with most of her friends ages ago, because they get weekends off. Hayley's boyfriend slept with one of her BFFs on Saturday night because Hayley was in bed early and he was a low-down dog.
Now, you may be thinking that Hayley and Bill could get together, but here's the rub: Hayley has Mondays and Tuesdays off, Bill has Wednesdays and Fridays off. Two ships forever doomed to pass in the night, and all so you can pretend to be trendy and pay $4 for a cup of coffee, or think about buying shoes even though the manufacturer's website has stacks more information and a direct buy facility that will save you money and reduce your carbon footprint since you didn't turn your car on.
So, I am suspicious of Tuesdays. Tuesday sneaks in with its old "I'm not Monday" line. Tuesday is yet another day to endure before payday. And get this: September 11, 2001 was a Tuesday. Tuesdays are crap days. As was this one, since I stayed back at work and had to grab drive-through fast food on the way home which is still making me a little ill. I was tired all day for no good reason. Twice I answered the phone at work and the person at the other end hung up on me.
Still, I did get an unexpectedly positive message on the Book of Faces despite my poor behaviour on Saturday night, and an old friend from over a decade ago contacted me with a "hey, what's up". Heroes was on today as well. And the weather, while not great, certainly wasn't as poor as it was on the weekend.
Maybe I've been too harsh on Tuesdays.
